Tony Plays to Great Acclaim in Toronto
A slew of concerts for Tony in the Greater Toronto Area over the last months sees remarkable reception.
Freshly graduated from Harvard University, Tony has made quite a few waves in Toronto’s music scene lately. Most recently, this past Friday, he was in Prince Edward County to perform Bach’s Piano Concerto in D minor, BWV 1052 with Maestro Johannes Debus for the opening of the 2022 Big Lake Arts Festival to an enthusiastic crowd of 1000+.
Some of our Academy students also managed to get in on the fun, organizing a group trip to the unique venue (aircraft hangar turned concert space) two hours east of downtown Toronto to catch the concert and spend the day together at the beach.
Just 3 weeks ago, with some concerts in Europe in between, Tony was performing at the University of Toronto’s Walter Hall for the Toronto Summer Music Festival to a sold-out audience. Apparently, Tony’s recital of Mozart, Ravel, Prokofiev, Liszt, and Chopin was the first occasion in more than 3 years in which that venue had completely sold out.
Earlier in the year, our artistic director was also in Toronto to take part in the announcement of the Royal Conservatory of Music’s (RCM) new Celebration Series: Music Lights the Way. At the exclusive event in Koerner Hall, Tony had the pleasure of performing alongside some of classical music’s biggest names such as Lang Lang, Angela Hewitt, Jan Lisiecki, and Stewart Goodyear to celebrate the launch. One of the pieces he played was a world premiere of a work by Edward Han Jiang that can be found in the Grade 9 syllabus.
Next up: Prokofiev Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Ontario Philharmonic and Maestro Marco Parisotto in Oshawa in November!
And in the meantime, some more concerts in Europe…
Looking forward to your next visit, Tony!
