Tony Judges Competition in Malaysia
As part of an ongoing concert tour in Asia, our artistic director was recently in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to serve on the jury of the 5th Piano Island International Festival.
Among the jury included esteemed musical figures such as Kevin Kenner (USA) – 2nd prize winner of the 1990 Chopin Competition in Warsaw and has since been a frequent juror of that competition, Pascal Rogé (France) – a legendary interpreter of French music, Eri Nakagawa (Japan), Congyu Wang (Singapore), Poom Prommachart (Thailand), Churen Li (Singapore), and Bernardo Santos (Portugal).
To be a juror comes with great responsibilities, and it is something that Tony always takes to heart in his judging philosophy.
In addition to competition duties, Tony also gave a recital featuring the music of Scriabin, Prokofiev, and Chopin, and some master classes to students of the festival.
Having been in Asia for 3 weeks now, Tony has already made stops in Japan, Thailand, Brunei, and most recently, Malaysia. He has so far had the pleasure of meeting with the Canadian ambassadors in three of those countries, and is grateful for their support.
Currently, Tony is in Hong Kong preparing for an upcoming two-piano concert with HK pianist Aristo Sham, and will be teaching nearly 40 students during his stay in a series of master classes hosted by Tom Lee Music. Looking forward!
Thank you Congyu Wang and Poom Prommachart, artistic directors of the 5th Piano Island Festival, for your generous invitation and unmatched hospitality in Malaysia!
